Exploring the island

Exploring the island

From walking its windswept coastlines, to sea swimming in one of its many secluded bays, Jersey provides the best environment for outdoor exploring with the whole family.

At only 9 miles by 5, the island’s varying landscapes are full of inspiring adventure, historic discovery & rich fulfillment.

If you aren’t shy about gaining a pair of sturdy sea legs, then jump aboard Jersey Safaris. Providing regular RIB boat trips, tours & private charters around Jersey’s magnificent coastline – this has to be one of the most exciting & invigorating ways to view our beautiful island. Whilst board you may be fortunate enough to see some dolphins and with an array of destinations such as The Echrehous and France on the list, it will be hard to not go back for a second trip!

Scenic walking routes are in abundance and a great place to start is to become familiar with Jersey’s National Park. From sweeping dunes to secluded cliff path trails, exploring on foot with a picnic in tow is the best way to discover the beautiful landscapes along with meeting some local wildlife along the way.

Discover the ultimate surfers' paradise- St Ouen’s Bay, if you fancy yourself an adrenalin seeker. Stretching roughly 5 miles of golden white sand and rolling waves of the refreshing Atlantic Ocean, this favoured beach is the go-to hot spot for outdoor activity lovers. Rent a surfboard from Little Joe’s and dive straight in! Once you have worked up an appetite, head straight to El Tico for an ice-cold beer and the popular dish of local fresh mussels and fries.

The history of our island is clearly represented in the form of the scattered forts, bunkers, and castles located around the island. Jersey Heritage, a charity that protects and preserves these historic sites, is a brilliant hub of fun learning resources for the family to enjoy. A great afternoon out should start with taking the amphibious ferry to Elizabeth Castle, where you can experience history and come back to life with live gunfire and interactive talks on the battlements.

One thing is for sure, you are never short of things to do on an island shaped by the sea. With some of the warmest climates the British Isles has to offer, what's not to love?
